Tips for Enjoying Valentine's Day After a Divorce

Valentine’s Day may be all hearts and flowers for some, but it can be a very difficult day for the recently divorced who may be feeling lonely, sad, or even cynical about love. While it is completely understandable to feel less than your best so soon after a divorce, you shouldn’t allow yourself to succumb to these feelings. Just because you are single does not mean that you can’t celebrate love in your life!

If you’re single this Valentine’s Day, try looking at things through this perspective:

1. Valentine’s day doesn’t have to be about romantic love. Use this as a time to celebrate other kinds of love, such as the love you feel for your family and friends. Show them you care by doing something nice for them!

2. Take time to celebrate self-love. We’ve all heard it before, but it’s a truism that bears repeating: you can’t truly love anyone else unless you love yourself. Use the time around Valentine’s Day to focus on loving and appreciating yourself. Become your own best friend and relish in your own good company. When you truly learn to love yourself, you will be better able to radiate love to others.

3. Treat yourself! You don’t need a significant other to enjoy a well-deserved treat on Valentine’s Day. Eat breakfast in bed! Buy yourself some flowers! Spend the day at the spa! Look for small and big ways to enjoy your day and show yourself a little TLC.

Divorce is hard, but remember that your number one priority should be your health and happiness. Regardless of whether you have a romantic partner in your life, you are still deserving of love, and there are plenty of ways to give and receive love during this time of the year.

If you have questions about divorce or need assistance with a family law issue, we invite you to contact Feldmann Nagel Cantafio Margulis Gonnell PLLC. A Colorado family law attorney at our firm would be happy to consult with you. Our office can be reached at (888) 458-0991.
