One of our clients here at Cantafio & Song PLLC is a gifted author of children’s and teen’s books named Firoozeh Dumas. Earlier this year, Firoozeh’s book It Ain’s So Awful, Falafel was published by Clarion Books and since then, it has received rave reviews online. In fact, her book has been named one of the Best Middle-Grade Books of 2016 by Kirkus Reviews.
It Ain’t So Awful, Falafel is the story of a California middle schooler who has found a comfortable niche in her school – that is, until political upheaval in Iran threatens her future and the safety of her family. The story follows her journey to maturity amidst her family’s move to Newport Beach and their experience with the best and worst of their adopted culture. The Kirkus review calls the story a “fresh take on the immigrant experience – authentic, funny, and moving from beginning to end.”
Firoozeh’s book has also been included in the New York Public Library’s list of the 100 Best Books for Kids for 2016. The NYPL’s lists span multiple genres and include the best books of the year that “consist of diverse characters, rich storytelling, and the ability to engage and stimulate a life-long love of reading.”
We are extremely proud of Firoozeh and are honored to have the chance to work with her. It Ain’t So Awful, Falafel is available for purchase via Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or through your local independent bookseller.
