Ms. Shaler is an associate at Feldmann Nagel, LLC, where she counsels clients in matters relating to estate administration, estate planning, conservatorships and guardianships, estate and trust administration, nonprofits and corporate matters.
Ms. Shaler most recently served as law clerk for the Hon. C. Jean Stewart, presiding judge ofDenver Probate Court. That experience provided Jennifer with an in-depth understanding of all areas of probate law, including wills and will contests, estate administration, trust interpretation and reformation, fiduciary litigation, protective proceedings (guardianships, conservatorships, approval of settlements for minors and adults with incapacities), charitable bequests, partnership matters, and related civil matters.
Jennifer gained valuable insight into family dynamics, mental health, the aging process, issues related to transfer of wealth and business succession planning. She believes proactive, effective communication and coordinated planning are essential to preparing one's family or business for life's transitions. Jennifer has completed a 40-hour course in mediation and incorporates those skills into her practice.
Ms. Shaler's professional interests also include matters of incorporation, business planning, and nonprofit entities. She has worked in-house for Johns Manville (a Berkshire Hathaway corporation) and had a career in resort hotel management prior to attending law school.
Professionaland community activities: Ms. Shaler is a member of the
Colorado Bar Association'sElder Law and Trust & Estate sections, theDenver Bar Association, and the Northwest Colorado Bar Association. She has presented continuing legal education sessions to the Denver Area
Women's Estate Planning Council and to the Denver Bar Association regarding challenges facing probate courts in a down economy and the opportunities those challenges present. Jennifer has served as a court appointed Guardian
ad Litem.
Jennifer answers callers' legal questions as a volunteer attorney on LawLine 9 on KUSA Channel 9. She was a participant in
Leadership Steamboat. She is a founding member and sits on the Board of Directors of Ginger's Tomorrow (the Virginia L. DeSalvo Foundation to Benefit
Lupus Research),and earned designation as a Certified Meeting Professional (“CMP”) through the Convention Industry Council.
Education: Ms. Shaler earned her Juris Doctorate degree from theUniversity of Denver Sturm College of Law and her Bachelor of Arts degree from the
University of Kansas, where she was a State of Kansas Scholar and recipient of the Big Red One Scholarship from the
Society of the First Infantry Division.
